Item record parts are filled and changed by using the item edit fields in the upper left corner of the HHS2 screen. There are six edit fields; “Name”, “Brand”, “Quantity”, “Cost”, “Size”, and “Location.” There is an edit field for every item part except two: “Need To Buy” (the checkmark) and “Coupon” (the cent mark(¢)).
These last two fields are only accessed by directly clicking on them in the item scroll area. One item, “Quantity”, can be changed by entry in its edit field or by clicking on it in the item scroll area. Clicking on a item’s quantity when the “+” sign is showing in the hand cursor adds to the number of items to buy. Hold down the command key and the cursor will change to a “—” sign and quantity will decrease with every click. If one item per click is too slow for you, hold the button down for a short time and the quantity will start to fast increment. Note, an item doesn’t need to be selected for a clickable field to be clicked on and changed.
Each edit field is limited to the number of character and/or types of characters it can contain. “Name” is limited to 25 characters, “Brand” — 12 characters, “Quantity” — 3 numbers only, “Cost” — 6 numbers and the decimal point, “Size” — 6 characters, “Location” — 7 characters.
Each edit field is checked for validity when either you try to access a different edit field or try to “Record” the item. If an error is found HHS2 will do one of two things. First, if the number in the “Quantity” or “Cost” fields are bad HHS2 will beep and hilite the bad entry. An item can’t be recorded or another field addressed as long as the data in that field is bad. Second, if an entry in one of the other fields has too many characters in it HHS2 will truncate or shorten the entry to fit and add an ellipsis (…) to the end of the entry.
